Questions About Genetics

Enzymes activate energy. As biological catalysts, enzymes determine which of the many possible chemical reactions actually take place within the cell.

The Catalytic Activity of Enzymes

activation energy, active site, and environmental effects on enzyme activity.MyHappyGenes is dedicated to helping individuals achieve healthy outcomes through knowledge of DNA and Genetics. By understanding your DNA you can better understand your health outcomes. Here are a couple of articles we have written on that subject.

Enzymes Explained

Enzymes are involved in all of the chemical reactions that occur in the body. We are accustomed to thinking about enzymes as only the ones that are useful for breaking down our food during digestion.   In fact, enzymes orchestrate the entire “symphony” of the body’s biochemistry at the cellular level. The lack of or the presence of enzymes shapes how we absorb or don’t absorb nutrients.

The Enzyme CBS: (Cystathionine Beta Synthase) | Energy Levels

CBS: (Cystathionine Beta Synthase) This enzyme converts homocysteine to cysteine and glutathione.  This is an upregulation defect; it regulates the enzymes that help to convert homocysteine into glutathione, a major antioxidant.  Mutations in the CBS genes will produce more sulfur end products from the methylation cycle. In particular, individuals who have the CBS (+/+, or +/-) the homozygous or heterozygous variants may want to limit intake of sulfur-containing foods (like cruciferous vegetables, garlic, and supplements, such as MSM) as well as medications (like DMPS.)  Both the CBS homozygous and heterozygous mutations also have a higher risk for ammonia detoxification issues.

New Approach to Worry Anxiety and Stress

Are you still suffering from constant anxiety, stress, and worry? Happy Genes offers a new approach to worry, anxiety, and stress.  It’s possible that your genetics are playing a larger role than you think. Being born with genetic variants in the COMT genes can lead to excess levels of stress-inducing hormones that you cannot efficiently break down. This leaves your body in a constant state of stress and anxiety.

DNA Synthesis and Repair

Variations in the methylation cycle can impair the body’s ability to make the building blocks needed for DNA and RNA synthesis.  These variations mean that all new cell synthesis is impaired. This critical process must occur as fast as cells die or we cannot live.  Our bodies make millions of new cells every minute.
